Sleep

When I think of college students I think of staying up until early mornings and sleeping in past noon. Well, for me that staying up part is right, but I do not get to sleep past noon. Typically, I have to be up by six o’clock every morning, but Sundays. I can not wait for Sunday mornings to come around because that is one of the only days of the week I get to sleep in until eight. Yes, I just said eight, most people think sleeping in is like from eleven to two; yet that is not the case for me. I would do anything for eight to nine hours of sleep every night. There are times I just want to come home and take a nap, but I have other places to be since I tend to “spread myself to thin”.
With all my other activities going on I am up until past 11 o’clock doing homework and catching up on my reading for my four classes. There are way too many other activities going on in my life that takes up to much time from my studying. Although, when I do get a night off I want to hang out with my boyfriend; however, I fall asleep by nine because I am so exhausted. I feel bad, but he has to understand that sometimes I just need my sleep. Sometimes I even put off my homework and studying just to get a few extra minutes of sleep.
Just keep in mind when you are tired these tips, like no caffeine and exercising at least 30 minutes a day, can help you not be so tired during the day; although, sometimes we are told to do these to stay awake. Hopefully some of my activities end soon so I can get more sleep.

I know how you feel. I always have to be by 7 and after all my classes are over I have to go to work until 10 and then I still have to have time to do homework and all that good stuff. It's gotten to the point where I just drink a lot of energy drinks to stay awake and then I get on my mom's nerves because I'm so hyper. I liked your blog and the link because everyone in college needs to learn how to manage sleeping with school. Great blog!

Another strong post. You make me tired just reading about your schedule. You’ve done a good job navigating the work for 109.02 thus far, though. Cool link. Make sure to put a space between paragraphs in future blog posts.

5/5

Yeah, I remember how I thought college was tough on my sleep schedule. I worked at least 20 hours a week, took 18+ credits every semester, I was president of a couple clubs and a theater director (which means rehearsals that go until 1am most days, and all free days are spent in the scene or costume shop).

But just a warning. Have a baby and you're thankful to get 4 hours of sleep. Usually broken into 1 hour segments. Crap. Now I'm pregnant again and all I want is to sleep, but will my toddler let me? Nope.

I wish I could go back to my "sleepless" college days and take a nap.

Thanks Tracy for commenting on not getting enough sleep. It's interesting to learn other people's sleeping habits. I completely understand how you feel about working 25 hours a week, 19+ credit hours and helping coach a middle school softball team is definitely very tiring. Good luck with the new baby on the way!
